Are you looking for ways to better engage with your customers and stay connected with them? Custom emails are a great way to do this. They allow businesses to create emails that show off their product, feature deals and promotions, or even offer personalized messages at specific times during customer interactions.
In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at how BigCommerce merchants can create and customize email templates for their business needs. We’ll provide guidance on best practices as well as helpful advice on the types of content you should use in order to construct an effective email campaign that will help build relationships with customers while improving overall brand awareness. Let’s get started!
About Email in BigCommerce
Your store’s domain should be used in the email addresses linked with it (for things like purchase queries, customer service requests, and similar things). This is done in a professional manner to convince visitors that they are speaking with a real store employee.
BigCommerce will set up a forwarding address for you as soon as you create your store, allowing you to start receiving emails right away. Up to five unique forwarding addresses can be set by you.
You can find your forwarding accounts under Settings Email & DNS records. There are slots for forwarding email addresses under the Mail Servers tab. By default, firstname.lastname@example.org will be configured to route emails to the email address used to create your shop. If you would rather, this can be changed to another email address.
To create an extra email address, click Add another. You should be aware that you can forward several email addresses to the same email. To try it out, send a test email to the forwarding email address you just created from a separate email account. Avoid testing with the email address you are forwarding to to prevent your email get caught in a cycle of forwarding.
The built-in email forwarding in BigCommerce cannot be used if you need to configure MX records for a third-party email service.
Custom SMTP Servers
If your third-party email provider gives you SMTP login information, you may use it to access that host’s servers to send emails for your shop, including invoices and order updates.
If you have email spoofing measures in place on your business email, this can provide you greater tracking capabilities when identifying the precise time an email was delivered and is helpful.
Available BigCommerce custom email templates
Order confirmation emails and other shop emails that consumers get automatically can be customized and enabled or disabled. You may improve the customer experience by customizing your email templates to allow you to personalize your email messaging to meet your brand. If you manage customer emails through a third party, you may wish to disable some or all of your store’s built-in emails.
The following email templates can be customized:
- Abandoned Cart
- Account Settings Edited
- Password Reset
- Order Status Update
- Order Email
- Guest Account Created
- Gift Certificate Recipient
- Sign-in Link Request
- Order Notification
- Product Review Request
- Return Requested
- Account Created

In email marketing, context is key. With the right mix of images, personalized content, and a CTA that speaks to their specific needs, you can create an email campaign that will resonate with your customers and help you achieve your business goals.
